Our guest artist @ COLLAGE CLUB this month is Hilda Wang
Thursday 5 October, 4 - 6pm
This month at Collage Club we welcome Hilda Wang as our GUEST ARTIST!
Regulars to Collage Club will know Hilda as she is our wonderful and skilled Collage Club volunteer. This week we will explore making hand-made paper using unwanted magazines and old books. Each year there are tonnes of recyclable materials taken to the landfill including old books, and working with these recycled materials provides an opportunity to rethink our relationship with waste.
Paper making has been a centuries-old practice across cultures. The process of paper making involves pulp making and the arrangement of pulps that allow them to form a thin sheet called paper. Paper making itself is an art form in it’s own right! Nowadays, in this commercial society where daily life is filled with cheap ready-mades and disposable items, paper is commonly mass-produced in factories. Factories determine the types of the paper as well as their availability to the market. Here at Collage Club we will make a less refined paper and be creative with its final forms.
Born in Beihai, China, and moved to Australia in 2002, Hilda Wang completed her Bachelor of Art and Design at Southern Cross University in 2022. Influenced heavily by Western and Japanese pop culture, Hilda developed her own style of drawing. She has a strong fascination with nature and the physical world, and the exploration of its microscopic dimensions informs her practice. Now, working as a disability support worker, she shares her skills and aims to bring joy to others by facilitating a Pop Culture program at work.
Collage Club is
- A free program, open to all ages and community.
- A wheelchair-accessible event.
- Please let us know if you require an Auslan interpreter for this event. Txt: 0431 597 047
This is an initiative of the Lismore Regional Gallery and is facilitated by Linsey Gosper, with support from Creative First Aid and Creative Australia.
