Natural Dyeing Workshop: Workshop: Contemporary Pojagi with Susan Fell Mclean
10am - 3.45pm Sat 25 Aug 2018
Enrolments by Aug 9th please to enable the tutor time to order class materials.
Participants of this exciting workshop will learn 2 shibori techniques and dye these with 2 different coloured eucalyptus dyes. They will learn about Pojagi (traditional Korean wrapping cloth). Participants will use silk organza to make their own small pojagi sampler using traditional hand stitching and the sewing machine. Each person will share dyed samples with others, receiving a variety of pieces to include in their take home Pojagi. Participants will contribute to a larger Pojagi group project to be donated to a public space in Lismore once completed.
The tutor is Susan Fell Mclean an internationally recognised textile artist. Susan specialises in shibori and natural dyes, specifically eucalyptus and indigo, and their application to contemporary Pojagi. Her exhibition “Gondwana Colour:Eucalyptus Colour” is showing at Lismore Regional Art Gallery from August 2 to September 2 and Susan is the gallery’s Artist in Residence during this time.
Having travelled extensively to learn from traditional and contemporary dye masters, the tutor draws on her recent attendance as guest presenter at the UNESCO Madagascar Festival of Plants Ecology and Colour, where scientists, writers, dye experts, artists and traditional dyers gathered to share latest research.
