DONHR: Story workshop (Auslan interpreted)
11am - 1pm Sat 8 May 2021
Join artist collective Make or Break and Deaf arts worker and cultural cultivator Sigrid Macdonald for an experimental story workshop, where we will write and think imaginatively about local futures from non-human perspectives. Speculating on possible futures - whether they are hopeful, catastrophic or wildly fantastical - is an important way to work towards the futures we want to create, and to start thinking about how we might arrive there. No previous creative writing experience is necessary. This workshop is aimed at adults, but teenagers with an interest in writing are also welcome. The workshop is free but bookings are essential and there are very limited places, so please let us know in advance if you can no longer attend.
Access info: This session will be Auslan interpreted. The workshop is taking place in a wheelchair-accessible space, with two spots at an artist-designed table that are accessible for wheelchair users. Seating is on stools and cushions, but more supportive seating can be organised on request. There is climate control in the space, so please dress warmly. Please contact us in advance if you would like to discuss other access needs.
This public program is part of Make or Break's current exhibition, The Department of Non-Human Resources - on currently at Lismore Regional Gallery (1 April - 6th of June 2021) in Gallery 3.
This project subjects the gallery to a collective rethinking, examining its relationship to consumption, waster, knowledge-production, cycles of nature and community. Make or Break invites speculation, thinking together, research, conversation and hands-on making to dig into questions of sustainability and sustainment as we face an uncertain future. The exhibition space will change and adapt as the artists work on a series of storytelling and prototyping activities with local people who are working, living and experimenting in related ways.
This is a free event but bookings are essential as spaces are limited.
