Art Talk :: Featuring Andrea Bubeniek
11am - 12pm Sat 5 May 2018
From Sacred to Secular: The Etchings of Rembrandt and Goya :: An illustrated public lecture by Dr. Andrea Bubenik
In this talk, I will explore some of the highlights of the Beguile exhibition, especially the masterful prints by Rembrandt van Rijn and Francisco Goya. Easily the most important printmakers of their respective generations, Rembrandt and Goya exploited the medium of etching to render dramatic scenes resplendent with textures of light. Featuring subjects that were both novel and risqué, these etchings allow us to consider the transition from sacred to secular, and themes that remain vibrant and relevant to contemporary life.
