We invite you to join us in painting hearts with messages and images, commemorating our experience of the 2022 flood. Facilitated by Lismore artists Lisa Bristow and Fabian Pertzel, all materials will be provided. This is part of an ongoing project created by Resilient Lismore, who have been working with the community painting hearts that have been generously donated by Men's Sheds from all over Australia. The aim of this project is that the hearts will be be displayed during the anniversary of the February 2022 Floods events in Lismore.Free, all welcome, you can join this event on two dates:
Tuesday February 28, 6 – 8pm, at Mortimer Oval, as part of the gathering of reflection and healing
Saturday March 4, 10am – 12pm, under the awning at the Lismore Quad
Lisa Bristow is an emerging artist based in Lismore producing work in her home. She works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography. Her eclectic body of work is a reflection and expression of an investigative life journey that encompasses the expanse of landscape to the smallest molecules that bind our universe together. Lisa studied painting and printmaking at the Canberra School of Art.
Fabian Pertzel is an artist based In Lismore NSW, where they work and create on Bundjalung country. They take inspiration from the rich LGBTQ history of the rainbow region, celebrating the freedom they have gained as an openly Queer artist. Fabian’s practice is cross-disciplinary, choosing to work with a variety of materials and digital media to express the themes captured with their art. Working as an artist facilitator, Fabian has delivered workshops with the Lantern parade, the I Will Survive flood recovery program, and for the past year has been an assistant facilitator with Claudie Frock for the Creative First Aid and Lismore regional gallery program Collage Club.
We would like to thank and acknowledge Roslyn Martens, Resilient Lismore and Men's Sheds from accross the country for their contribution to this project. This event is generously supported by Lismore City Council.
