HIROMI TANGO: RAINBOW
11 March - 15 April 2023
Hiromi Hotel: Rainbow is a sensory installation that takes inspiration from ‘the rainbow,’ drawing on colours and symbology of this natural wonder (hope, equality, new beginnings). Hiromi Tango’s therapeutic process involves gently wrapping fabric to build twisting organic forms to create spaces for reflection and human connection. The exhibition and related public programs share Tango’s playful and therapeutic making processes, inviting visitors to play an active role in making the work. Hiromi Tango is a revered contemporary artist based at Tweed Heads. Her work has been exhibited at major national art museums and regional galleries across Australia and at international exhibitions in the United States, Belgium, Dubai, and the Asia Pacific. A documentary about Hiromi Tango: Rainbow can be viewed here.
Community engagement
If you would like to contribute to the exhibition, you can be gently guided through Tango’s creative processes through participation in workshops with the help of our team of excellent artist facilitators, Amarina Toby, Belinda Evans, Linsey Gosper, and Sigrid Macdonald (Auslan-led activities). Drop into the gallery on Thursdays or contact our Public Engagement Officer, Linsey Gosper (linsey.gosper@lismore.nsw.gov.au) to organise activities for your school or community group or for information about the timing of the Auslan-led activities. All materials are supplied, and the processes can be tapered for all ages, abilities, and desired input levels.
The exhibition is wheelchair-accessible, please get in touch with the gallery if you have any further accessibility requirements.
This project is supported by the NSW State Government through Create NSW.
