This exhibition will cover 70 years of the artist’s practice in over 40 works. Starting from a 1915 detailed drawing of an idea for a Brisbane Opera House, the exhibition takes us on a journey through France, Spain and Greece to numerous depictions of the Australian landscape. As the artist’s eyesight failed in his later years, his work took on an ethereal quality, responding more to the colour and quality of light. The exhibition includes a 1984 series of eight lithographs following the path of the sun on the Derwent River, Tasmania, over the course of one day.
This Lismore Regional Gallery initiated project includes work drawn from the collections of a number of regional galleries, as well as works by Rees from Lismore Regional Gallery’s permanent collection. Curated by Brett Adlington.
