Defiant: Never Alone Solid Together
DEFIANT: Powerful project brings artists together with Lismore Young People.
Lismore Regional Gallery and Beyond Empathy are proud to announce the following updates for the Defiant project. Defiant is an ambitious, multi-disciplinary art project bringing Lismore’s young people together with some of our countries most exciting artistic talent.
Beyond Empathy would like to acknowledge all the art that has been created by the young people of Lismore. The time and dedication of the young people has resulted in the creation of meaningful art for the benefit of the entire community so we may better understand each other.
These artworks were scheduled to be shown at a major exhibition at Lismore Regional Gallery. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions in the best interests of public health the exhibition cannot be installed at this time.
We are now looking forward to a series of online releases featuring the many different pockets of creativity in the project. These will feature live streams and digital showings of all the art created through the life of the project by all contributing artists showcasing music, dance, street art, rap, poetry, installation, portraiture, photography and video. These will take place on the Beyond Empathy FB page via https://www.facebook.com/be.org.au
Further updates and digital art will be released here and the Beyond Empathy FB and insta - https://www.instagram.com/beyondempathy/
Contributing artist and mentor Abdul Abdullah said of Defiant:
“I had an incredible experience spending a week in Lismore. I got to work with two groups of inspiring young people, and was floored by the creative talent. I think art making has a powerful ability to contribute to the positive development of young people. Art makes you approach problems and challenges in creative ways, and watching the kids on the program take the creative challenges head on was fantastic.”
