The series ‘a New World’ arose out of my ongoing interest in humanity’s relationship to the non-physical realms and all that is born from them, including Nature. Over hundreds of years we have come to believe that we are separate from the natural world, as well as losing our knowledge of and participation in wider realities. This has led to the near genocide of cultures that recognise and honour this wisdom.
Now, as we appear to be coming ever closer to a great ending with its ultimate humbling and even the possible extinction of humanity, I ask the question: What if we were to remember that we are inseparable from Nature, utterly dependent on and beholden to Her?
But before that can happen, will there be a time in-between – when forces must arise to defend and align with Nature – to overcome the vestiges of the old world ignorance and imbalance. Perhaps a new alliance is awakened, more ancient than humanity – arising out of the ashes of the Old?
Zom Osborne was raised in Portland, Oregon and she spent her years hiking and camping in the wild. For the past 30 years she has been living in the rainforest of the Northern Rivers. She is a narrative painter interested in the imaginary, mythical and symbolic realms.
