These women artists, practicing in the period from 1925 to 1945, saw a growth in social freedom and as many travelled they became familiar with developments of modernism in Europe. These artists injected new vitality and a modern vision into the Australian art world.
Grace Cossington Smith, Thea Proctor, Margaret Preston, Clarice Beckett, Ethel Spowers, Muriel Cornish, Margaret Coen, Gertrude Hermes, Clare Leighton, Alison Rehfisch, Jean de Courtenay Isherwood and Edna Jane McKenzie.
Works in the exhibition will be drawn the collections of Bathurst Regional Gallery, Manly Art Gallery & Museum, SH Ervin Gallery, Orange Regional Gallery, New England Regional Art Museum, Benalla Art Gallery, Tweed River Art Gallery, Philip Bacon Galleries and Lismore Regional Gallery.
