Listen Up! is a field recording and music-making workshop for people aged 14 - 24 facilitated by Finley Wegener. The workshop shows participants how sounds in our environment can become music. It involves exploring the outdoors with handheld recorders and headphones to investigate sounds in the air, in the water, and even in electromagnetic fields! Sounds are then brought into an electronic music-making setup where participants work as a group to remix sounds into music and add some easy-to-play instruments.
This is an accessible music experience well suited to young people interested in technology, sound, and experimental music. No previous experience needed.
Bookings are essential, and ticket pricing is on a sliding scale from $0 - $15, to ensure inclusion. Small workshop size, and limited tickets available.
About Finley Wegener
Finley Wegener is an audiovisual artist and musician practising on the Kabi Kabi lands of South East Queensland. Motivated by artβs capacity to connect audiences to their surroundings, Fin passionately crafts interactive performances that amplify and respond to environments and their ecology. With undergraduate and honours degrees in Music Technology from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Fin has presented sound and audiovisual installations and performances at SEQ festivals such as Brisbane Art & Design Festival, Horizon Festival, Yonder, and Outbound, as well as juried work in the International Symposium on Electronic Art 2024 and 2025. Finβs portfolio blurs lines between the participatory and the spectacle, with several works involving dance, interaction and environmental data as sources of unpredictable influence. Currently, Fin is undergoing a research project involving performances with a range of environments and communities at the University of the Sunshine Coast titled Hearing Now.
This workshop is proudly presented as part of Youth Week.
