Wandering As Art is a new conversation series presented by the Friends of Lismore Regional Gallery.
The program connects artists' stories of travel with audiences who love art and experiences that disrupt the everyday. Speakers will share the highs and lows of their travel experiences through creative pilgrimage, residencies and vacations around the world, and closer to home.
These conversations reveal how taking steps out of the comfort zone and taking on new challenges can stimulate the artist to create new approaches to their creative processes. They will explore whether travel contributes to revelations and transformation, creating new ways of being, understanding and seeing the world around them. The conversation invites the artist to share the potent energy of the experience, unearthing novel questions in their practice and stating something new about the world we share.
This session invites Aria Kitchener, an Indigenous Bush Ranger and graphic storyteller living and working on his ancestor's country, Bundjalung Jugun. Aria was the first winner of the Friends Prize for the Youth Category at the Koori Mail National Indigenous Art Award in 2024.
He documents the ecological and cultural stories of Country through creative and educational storytelling, exploring the deep connections between landscape, community and knowledge systems. Aria is passionate about making Indigenous history, science, anthropology and cultural knowledge more accessible to the wider community.
Afternoon tea will be provided and the Friends Bar will be open.
Tickets are $15 (members) and $20 (non-members). Tickets are limited, and booking is essential. Book now.
