This exhibition showcases the work of Hungarian photographer Lucien HervĆ©, leading figure and master of architectural photography. His characteristic style combines a humanist outlook with an architectās eye. His use of cropped frame (he often uses a pair of scissors), plunging or oblique view focusing both on the detail and the big picture and uncluttered composition tending toward abstraction, create a unique style that is instantly recognizable. The images provide a view on Lucien HervĆ©ās personal take on three major creative personalities of the 20th century: Le Corbusier, father of modern architecture, Niemeyer, sculptor of monuments, and Matisse working on his last masterpiece, the āChapelle de Venceā. Lucien HervĆ© died in Paris in 2007.
A Lismore Regional Gallery exhibition curated by Pierre Chevalier, and with the support of Judith HervƩ-Elkan.
